Brigadier General (Ret.) Israela Oron will share her negotiation and resolution expertise in a lecture on understanding the past in order to achieve progress in the future.
Brigadier General (Ret.) Oron is presently an analyst and commentator on security and strategic affairs, with special expertise on the Palestinian refugee issue. Oron served as Deputy National Security Advisor at Israel’s National Security Council (NSC). In this role, she was responsible for many of the strategic assessments and the development of strategies and policies regarding the Israeli Palestinian conflict.
General Oron had a lengthy and distinguished military career. She joined the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) in the 1970s and served in various key positions, breaking through the gender barrier; she was the first woman to command an all male officer training course in the air force, the first woman appointed as IDF deputy spokesman, and the first woman to serve on the faculty of the National Defense College. Oron’s last military posting was as the commander of the IDF’s Women’s Corp, where she initiated significant reforms regarding the role of women in the IDF and Israeli society at large.
Today, she serves on the boards of leading security, peace and social justice organizations, including The Geneva Accord, the Acharai Movement, the New Israel Fund international council, the council of peace and security, commanders for Israel's security, and the executive committee of Ben Gurion University.
Oron holds a BA in psychology from Haifa University and an Msc in business management from Tel Aviv University.
