2019 The Charney Center Peace Talks Simulation Committee with Nikolay Lopukhin
Help with the preparation prior, perform speech and present speakers on the day of the Peace Talks Simulation and report after on the event.

This year’s Peace Talks Simulation was a very diverse experience, there was upset, outrage, and anger but at the end and most importantly, there was an agreement. As organizers, we were delighted to see the effect of different additions we made to the simulation process, such as the use of mediators or a clearer separation of negotiation tables during the process to help all participants focus on their agreements.— Clemens

Participated and Reported on “The Israeli - Palestinian Conflict During the Times of Corona

Clemens reported as below:
Coming into the webinar, I knew that the conflict wouldn’t be solved all of a sudden. The topic and conflict stay complex. I had expected the COVID-19 pandemic to open new opportunities and chances for cooperation and negotiation. In the buildup to the webinar, the annexation plans of Netanyahu were starting to be materialized and I had no idea to what extent it would influence our discussion topic. To my surprise, our speaker Peter Jones was able to go into that topic in depth even on such short notice. It was tough to notice how these political Issues do not stop, even during a pandemic. In Europe, where I live, almost everything is overshadowed by the Coronavirus, apparently not so much in the Middle East”.

AMBASSADOR CLEMENS GUERTLER | Germany/Spain, Emis Alumni

Discussion is his passion. Resolving conflicts is his aim. Peace as the product of moderated conflict and discussion.
Clemens was born in Germany, raised in Spain and matured in Israel. By studying at the Eastern Mediterranean International School (EMIS) in Israel he furthered his experience with different cultures and issues around the globe. It opened his eyes on the importance of open discussions as a crucial tool to resolve conflicts and building sustainable peace. In his interdisciplinary studies of Philosophy and Economics at the University of Bayreuth, Germany he is studying the different factors that overlap in conflict situations to successfully contribute to peace building processes around the world.

"I strive to understand the crucial factors of conflicts by understanding the people involved in them. At the end of the day peace is made between individuals and not institutions." - Clemens Gürtler
