Read moreThe Leon Charney Diplomacy Program at Florida Atlantic University received the Distinguished Delegation Award at the National Model United Nations competition in New York City. Thirty FAU undergraduates joined more than 5,000 college students from 350 universities in the annual competition where schools represent countries and students step into the shoes of diplomats to solve global problems.
The Leon Charney Diplomacy Program, which trains students in world affairs, dispute resolution and debate, was established in 1996 and is a unit of the Peace, Justice & Human Rights Program. To date, the program has won thirty-three national and international awards for academic excellence.
In 2017, the program was named to honor the diplomatic legacy of Leon Charney, who played a key role in the 1978 Camp David Accords. FAU will next compete in Nationals in Washington, D.C. in November where it will defend its first place finish in 2018.

Florida Atlantic University President John Kelly hosted members of the Leon Charney Diplomacy Program to a luncheon to celebrate the program’s accomplishments. In November, the Diplomacy Program placed first overall out of sixty competing universities at the National Model United Nations simulation in Washington, D.C. The program competes this spring in Nationals in New York City and in the Model European Union simulation hosted by the University of Indiana.

The Leon Charney Diplomacy Program at Florida Atlantic University finished first overall in the National Model United Nations competition in Washington, D.C., November 8-11. Sixty universities from across the nation participated. This is the first National title for the Program.

The Leon Charney Diplomacy Program at Florida Atlantic University received the Best Commissioner Award at the Model European Union competition in Bloomington, Indiana. Ashley Amian and Lucia Barnes participated in the diplomatic simulation, the students represented Austria.

Read moreThe gift will allow for the creation of three Leon Charney Scholarships each fall and spring semester, as well as expand the existing Diplomacy Program to create an Undergraduate Honors Program (UHP) delegation, and expand to create an FAU High School delegation. The UHP and FAU High students will be trained in their own class and will compete in nationals in Washington, D.C. each fall.
